Peter Morgan

Peter MorganEveryday at Primary School in Fife was fun and exciting thanks to a brilliant teacher called Mrs Strachan. In first year at Secondary School my family moved and to begin with it was difficult to settle in, but I ended up making many friends and had some great teachers. I enjoyed learning and was really happy there. When I left school in 4th year I moved to Perth and started working as a maintenance technician. After four years I got a job as a test technician, which I did for the next seven years before getting a job as a technical and service co-ordinator for a firm in Glenrothes.

In 2000 my wife Fiona returned to education. She did an access course at Elmwood College then went on to complete her B. Ed in Primary Education at the University of Dundee. While she was doing this, my focus was to support Fiona to help her succeed, but I was really inspired by her experiences and by the energy that she had. When she was nearing the end of her degree I decided to change my career as well and the idea of teaching held great appeal. To me teaching offers the opportunity to make a real difference to someone’s life, which is obviously rewarding.

It’s never too late to do something new or to learn. If you want to learn something, or achieve something…Go for it!

I am currently coming to the end of my access course at Elmwood College and have applied to the University of Dundee to do a B. Ed in Primary Education myself. I’ve had to wait for a few years to start my journey as Fiona and I have three children and a mortgage, but now is the right time for me and I’m looking forward to my studies, a new career and an exciting future.
