In addition to a confidential on campus counselling service, colleges and universities can provide student advice; healthcare; residences or accommodation support and a careers service. A few institutions also offer the facility to create a personal development plan, which can help you to direct and support your own learning and/or a peer-mentoring scheme to enable you to meet and befriend other students. You should ask the college or university you intend to go to what student services are available.
There are also lots of student clubs and recreational activities at college and university that you would be able to take advantage of. Learning doesn’t just involve academic study it can open up a whole new world - so ask what’s out there and get involved.
