Qualifications
There are many routes to and through college and university and the number of different qualifications on offer can be overwhelming.
If you would like to learn to qualify for a particular job such as a librarian, doctor, architect or pharmacist for example, you will have to study a particular set of courses and you will probably already have an idea of the kind of subject area and qualification you will need to gain in order to fulfil your ambition. But for many other careers, such as, insurance, publishing, commercial buying or banking employers are more likely to want to employ you if you’ve done a college or university course although these jobs usually don’t require a vocational qualification.
A qualification or award will be valuable to you as evidence of your capabilities and in Scotland you can study for a wide range of qualifications and awards. These include undergraduate degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), Higher National Certificates (HNCs), Certificates and Diplomas of Higher Education (CertHE or DipHE), and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs)
